Galaxy Map of the Foundation Universe
The interactive 3D galaxy map requires JavaScript to render. Below is a text-based guide to the key locations in Isaac Asimov's Foundation universe that the map visualizes.
Critical Locations
- Trantor — Capital of the Galactic Empire. An entire planet covered by a single city, housing 40 billion people. The administrative center of 25 million worlds, located at the center of the galaxy.
- Terminus — Home of the First Foundation, established by Hari Seldon at the edge of the galaxy. From an encyclopedia project grew a civilization that would reshape the galaxy.
- Earth — The legendary birthplace of humanity, lost to memory and myth. Its location became the greatest secret in the galaxy, protected by robots for millennia.
Major Worlds
- Aurora — The oldest and most powerful Spacer world, with 200 million inhabitants served by billions of robots.
- Solaria — An isolated Spacer world where humans live alone on vast estates, served by thousands of robots each.
- Kalgan — A resort planet that became the Mule's capital during his brief conquest of the Foundation.
- Anacreon — One of the Four Kingdoms bordering Terminus, the first threat to the Foundation's survival.
- Korell — A republic that threatened the Foundation with technology supplied by the dying Empire.
About the Map
The galaxy map plots 20+ worlds across a 100,000 light-year diameter galaxy. Trade routes connect the major powers, and each location is color-coded by its role in the Foundation saga: the Empire (gold), the Foundation (emerald), Spacer worlds (cyan), and hidden worlds (purple). The map includes a cinematic tour that visits each major location in sequence.
