Seldon Crisis: Anacreon
The first Seldon Crisis is the moment Terminus stops being a library. About fifty years after Hari Seldon founds the Foundation, the kingdom of Anacreon moves to annex the colony. The Board of Trustees wants a petition to the Emperor. Salvor Hardin, Mayor of Terminus, has to notice that the Empire will not come, that a shooting war cannot be won, and that the Foundation's remaining science is the only leverage that counts. This scenario follows Foundation (1951), part two, “The Encyclopedists.” It is not the Apple TV+ plot. First-time readers who want the surprise intact should play first, then read the book page and the reading-order guide.

What the book actually does
In Foundation (1951), Salvor Hardin resolves the first Seldon Crisis without a battle. The Board of Trustees still believes the colony exists to compile the Encyclopedia Galactica. Hardin stages a bloodless takeover and uses the Foundation's remaining atomic science as political leverage over the Four Kingdoms — later wrapped in a religion of science. The crisis has a single viable solution because the surrounding kingdoms have lost the technology Terminus still holds, and because appealing to a distant Emperor cannot change that math.
After the crisis is resolved, a holographic Hari Seldon appears in the Time Vault on Terminus. The recording confirms that the encyclopedia was a pretext and that the Foundation was placed at the edge of the Galaxy to become a political nucleus, not a catalogue. Later crises change the tool — religion, then trade — but they keep Hardin's pattern: do not fight the obvious war.

The famous line is 'Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent.'

- Book canon. The scenario follows 'The Encyclopedists' in Foundation (1951): the Board, Lord Dorwin, Anacreon, Hardin's bloodless coup, and the Time Vault. It does not use Apple TV+ inventions such as the Genetic Dynasty.
