With the Foundation fallen, the fugitive group's only hope is finding the Second Foundation. Dr. Ebling Mis throws himself into historical and mathematical research, working with almost superhuman intensity. The Mule has subtly enhanced Mis's abilities through emotional conversion, driving him to find the answer faster — but the Mule himself doesn't know the location.
Bayta Mallow begins to feel uneasy about their situation. Something about their escape was too convenient, and Magnifico's fearful behavior doesn't always ring true. Her suspicions represent the 'free variable' that will ultimately save the galaxy.
The Second Foundation, led by Preem Palver (Troy Kotsur), is shown operating from the shadows, aware of the Mule's threat but uncertain how to respond without exposing themselves.
