Episode Summary
In the season's most dramatic episode, the Mule's forces reach Terminus itself. The Foundation — which has survived every Seldon Crisis for 500 years — falls shockingly fast. The Mule's emotional conversion renders military defense meaningless; generals and politicians switch sides mid-battle.
Bayta and Toran Mallow, accompanied by the clown Magnifico and the increasingly obsessed Dr. Ebling Mis, escape the fall of Terminus. They become refugees, with Mis driven by the conviction that the Second Foundation is their only hope.
Hari Seldon is shattered — psychohistory predicted nothing like this. The Mule represents the one thing his science cannot account for: a unique, unpredictable individual who can single-handedly alter the course of history.

Book Connection
The fall of the Foundation is directly from 'Foundation and Empire.' Asimov wrote it as a shocking reversal — the seemingly invincible Foundation crumbles before a threat psychohistory never anticipated.
